After chopping about 5 cords of wood with this I can confidently say it's the best ax out there. I'm 6 foot 2 and the shortness of the handle is something to be very aware of but it also makes the ax very controllable. We also bought one of these for a gift for my dad after being so happy with it.

I ordered this product as a gift for my husband. He had been looking for this brand of ax with this length of handle for a long time. We finally found it. The blade is very sharp, just by touch. He hasn't had the chance to use it yet, but he does walk around with it a lot. Maybe he will cut something with it soon, and I can let you know how that works out.

I first watched a friend of mine split 3 ft. long by 30" diameter fir rounds with this axe. The wood was knotty and green--no problem as long as you split to the middle of the logs. I have now bought five of the axes and given 3 as gifts and have one extra to give to someone. Two of my neighbors bought one after watching me split wood. I had about 4-5 cords of fir rounds at my property last summer. My niece had three of her college male friends visit. They offered to split wood so I gave them the splitting axe and a traditional mall that I had in the garage. They all agreed that the Fiskars axe won hands down. They split all of the wood but broke the traditional malls handle before they finished. We all have access to a hydralic splitter but we find that the splitting mall/axe is more fun. Make sure that you buy the Fiskars 41/4 lb. model #7854, not the 21/4 lb. model.
